After six months of trying to get pregnant in my mid-thirties, I borrowed a CB fertility monitor from a pregnant friend and bought a set of sticks. One cycle later, and a lot of peeing on sticks later, I'm pregnant! The monitor helped me pinpoint exactly on which days to "go for it" and the results speak for themselves! It was also very reassuring to see the "ovulation" indicator appear after days of "high fertility" readings and to know that my body was making the appropriate hormones.

You do need to read the instructions very carefully. For example, one person complained here has complained that her monitor or sticks may be broken, as the monitor's read "high fertility" for a large number of days. However, the instruction booklet specifically says that this may happen in your first cycle using the monitor, as it gets used to your hormone levels, but that it will get more accurate for subsequent cycles.

I do realise that I've been lucky and I know this product won't work as well for everyone, particularly those with undiagnosed fertility issues, but I'd recommend it.

I really wasn't sure what to expect from this device, not being familiar with the broader "genre". It is pleasantly shaped and textured, and seems solidly constructed, as you might expect from Philips. It has a slightly rubbery feel and fits neatly into the palm of your hand.

The base charger, on the other hand, is rather larger than I would have expected (given that it needn't contain any more workings than an electric toothbrush charger), and receives the lead from the AC wall adapter via a rather bulky, protruding connector. The whole thing takes up rather more of the limited space on my bedside cabinet than I would deem necessary. But it's not a big problem.

The massager itself is completely waterproof (not that I've tested this) so can be easily cleaned and can be used in the bath. It has a on-off/mode-select button, as well as plus and minus vibration level buttons. I found these somewhat small and fiddly to use, but they do light up in the dark. The massager contains, sealed inside it, a rechargeable battery, control circuitry, and presumably a motor with an eccentric weight to create the vibrations.

In use the whole massager vibrates quietly, at fairly high frequency. The vibrations are especially strong along one edge, and are concentrated maximally at the tip of the device.

The effect: despite Philips' claims that this is an "all over body massager", neither my wife nor I found it particularly rewarding when applied to neck, shoulders, back, etc.: the vibrations are too high-frequency to give a deep massage; rather, they produce a strange buzzing sensation, especially when touching the spine, which is neither unpleasant nor pleasant. Really, it seems to me that this massager is designed for more intimate areas, and in that respect it meets with considerably more success.

So is it worthwhile? If you are already familiar with, and comfortable with, the more brazen products in this genre, you would probably not find this a useful addition. However for those who would like something more subtle, it certainly fits the bill.
